Coringa
Wildlife Sanctuary ( Coringa )
The
Coringa sanctuary is located around 20 Kms from Kakinada and 70 Kms from
Rajahmundry. The Coringa situated in Godavari Delta and spanning 235 sq.
km. of area was established in 1978 and is home for water birds,
crocodiles and other animals.
The Coringa sanctuary is a part of river Godavari and owns a deep
expansion of Mangrove plantation. The highlight of the Coringa sanctuary
is that it is situated on the backwaters of the sea. One can spot
estuarine crocodiles, sea turtles, fishing cats, otters and large
variety of birds here. Otter, a protected specie is found here. Among
other animals which include Fishing Cat, Jackal, Sea Turtle and
Estuarine Crocodile which are found in the creeks. The common birds
found are Snipes, Ducks, ,Sea Gulls and Flamingos.
Best Season to Visit is From October to May.
Accommodation is available at forest rest houses located at Coringa and
Rajahmundry. |
