Kanak Durga Temple (Vijaywada)
 The Kanka Durga temple of Sri Kanaka Durga located on the indrakila hill which attracts lots of visitors. It is said that Adi Sankara visited this temple and installed Sri Chakra. Goddess Durga killed the demon Durgam on the request of the other Gods,. At that time she has been described as in the golden color. So the Gods called her as Kanaka Durga. Chanting of mantras and devotional music euphonies the air in the mornings creating a serene atmosphere.
It is among the important mentioned in the sacred texts.On the way to the Kanakadurga temple are the rock-cut carve devoted to akkanna and Madanna, Ministers in the court of Abul hasan Tanashah, the 17th century Qutub Shahi ruler.Kanaka Durga, the goddess of power, riches and kindness is the presiding deity of Vijayawada.
One can either motor up the ghat road or take to the steps on foot. Inscriptions of different dynasties are found in the Kanka Durga temple. During Dusshera (Durgashtami), lakhs of devotees from the city and its environs throng the temple after a holy dip in the River Krishna close by. |
