Sibsagar Tank
Sibsagar Tank
is an outstanding landmark in the historic city of Sibsagar.The water level in the tank is raised slightly above ground
level. It covers an area of 120 acres and is fed by natural springs. The
tank was dug around 200 years ago The tank is surrounded by deep ditches
and earthen moats. During winter the area is haven to Siberian migratory
ducks.
Built two centuries ago by Queen Madambikaand, it is a large artificial
lake, situated in the heart of the town, Three temples are built on its bank - Siva temple, Vishnu temple and
Devidol temple. The nearest airport is 55 km away, at Jorhat. Simaluguri,
the nearest railhead, is 16 km from here
