northern edge of the Chotta Nagpur Plateau, is the BETLA (PALAMAU) NATIONAL PARK. Encompassing an area of 231.67 sq. km, Palamau Tiger Reserve park enjoys a special status as a Tiger Reserve and is associated with the prestigious 'PROJECT TIGER'.
The river KOEL passes through it. In its vicinity are two ruined forests, which offer the visitor with an unusual spectacle.
The vegetation is tropical dry deciduous type. Sal and bamboo grow up in abundance. The Gaur, Nilgai, Jackal, Sambar, Leopard, Tiger, Indian Flying Fox, Wild Boar, Four-horned Antelope and the Bengal Fox stand for the wildlife. Palamau Tiger Reserve park boasts of a prodigious avian population. Nearly 1400 species of birds have been recognized in Palamau Tiger Reserve park.
The nearest town is DALTON GANJ (25 km). Abode place is existing at the Forest Rest Houses, and Tourist lodge at Betla and other neighboring places. Palamau Tiger Reserve park can be traversed on vehicles, which can be obtained on hire.
Ramgarh Fort: Herds of elephants can be seen in Palamau Tiger Reserve Park during their yearly migration.
Species found: Elephant, panther, wild boar, barking deer, gaur, chital, sambar, peafowl, etc.
