Bharmaur Jatra Fair
Bharmaur Jatra is
a popular fair celebrated in Chamba District of Himachal Pradesh. It
falls in the month of August. The fair begins on the day following
Janmashtami, the birthday of Lord Krishna, and it lasts for six days.
Each day of this fair is dedicated to different deities such as Hari Har
(Lord Shiva), Nar Singh, Ganesh, Lakshna Devi, Keling and Seetla Devi.
The instruments of Hari Har temple such as dhol, narsingha, nagara,
shehnai and kernel are played to indicate the start of the puja or
prayer.
A procession is led by the head priest dressed in typical Gaddi dress,
sporting a silken turban on head, silver mace in the left hand and puja
patar in the right. The puja is performed in each of the temples. After
this, traditional folk dances are performed by both men and women, which
continues till late night.
