Pulkhepa Festival
Pulkhepa is
another form of Khepa festival, which is celebrated in the Kinnaur
region of Himachal Pradesh. It is a festival for chasing demons. During
this festival, the head of the goat and poltu, a sort of fried bread,
are cooked.
The ears of the goat are hung on the thorny shrub along with Poltu and
Sigre, which is a turnip preparation stuck with thorns all over. These
are placed at cross roads and sometimes put indoors for two days.
Sometimes, the horns of the goat are burnt to chase away the evil
spirits.
A variety of traditional dishes are cooked and eaten during this
festival. These delicacies are also distributed among the neighbors and
friends.
