About St. Philomena's Church
Located about 3 kms from the city bus stand is a well-known landmark of Mysore. It houses the relic of 3rd century saint, Philomena, in the beautifully arranged catacomb, below the main altar. Built in Gothic style, it is the largest Cathedral in South Asia and has beautiful stained glass windows.

Structure
Rev. Rene Feuga, Bishop of Mysore in the early 1930s, built it as a miniature reproduction of the cologne cathedral. It's stained windows and lofty towers give this cathedral an imposing look. The whitewashed walls and high, vaulted Gothic ceiling impart a pearly white ambience to the inside of the church, Colorful stained glass representations, depicting the birth of Jesus, the Last Supper, the Crucifixion, the Resurrection and the Ascension of Christ allow light to stream into the church. The catacomb under the later features a reclining statue of St Philomena that is regularly visited by devotees from all regions. Another item of interest is a large organ situated in a gallery above the nave. The church about 50m in length has twin spires about 50m in height. The three bells that ring for Sunday service are located in the spires.

Information for tourist

Never miss to see the illuminated church in the evening. Visiting hours are from 8.a.m to 5.pm, daily.
