In the heart of the Bangalore city is located Cubbon Park, in front of Vidhana Soudha, stretching over an area of about 300 acres. The garden laid down by Lord Cubbon in 1864 AD, has beautifully laid out lawns, grassy expanse and flowering trees.
The monotony of city life is broken with presence of such a large park in the centre of the city. Cubbon Park is a joggers' & walkers' delight.
This well laid garden is also a major attraction for nature lovers. The children's playground provides amusement and recreation to the children. Near the Cubbon Park is the Nehru Children park (Bal Bhawan) and the Aquarium.
This aquarium has a good collection of aquatic animals and is a treat for the children. The Bal Bhawan is full of surprises for the children. They can swim along a boat, trot up a pony ride.
Chug around in a toy train, wander about in the fore ground and dress up their mind in the theatre. The Bal Bhawan is packed with entertainment.
The Mini Train
A mini train operates on all days except Monday, which is weekly holiday. It runs from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm and from 1.00 pm to 8.00 pm everyday.

This beautiful park is the haunt of the seeker of pleasure and tranquility and is highly popular with walkers, joggers and nature lovers. Complementing the natural beauty of the park are the red Gothic structures of the State Central Library and the High Court. Situated close to the High Court is the State Central Library, worth a visit for its rare treasure of books and building has the "Pompeian red" colour and architectural style of stone and fluted pillars, with walls finished in lime plaster. Apart from its rich flora, Cubbon Park houses a number of institutions of significance like the Cheshire Dyer Memorial Hall, Ottawa Chatter, and Museum. It hosts a children's amusement park, a doll museum and a toy train for children. Children's parties can be arranged with cartoons characters etc. in the park. The park is a lush, grassy expense fringed with flower beds, shady bowers and flowering trees, where literally thousands can take a stroll without bumping into each other. In the evenings the illuminated fairy fountains light up and a restaurant in the center of the park serves light refreshments. It contains various species of trees, some of which have been specially imported. The trees are meticulously labelled with their scientific names and their ages. There is a lot for children to stay back long hours in the park. Courses ranging from pottery to aeromodelling are offered.

Cubbon Park is open to the public at all times, but closed to traffic from 5 am to 8 am everyday. |
