The Aranmula Boat Race is staged every year in the attractive village of
Aranmula in August/ September. This river festival is fraction of the
Aranmula Temple festival. Masses throng the coast of the River
Pamba to watch an impressive cluster of snake boats called 'Palliyodams'.
Each boat, nearly 100 feet lengthy, is an outstanding feat of craftsmanship, with the stem bent to resemble the hood of a snake and a tampering bow. Festooned with silk and gold spangled umbrellas, the boats are manned by a group of more than 100 men.
