The Main Festival: Held in November-December
Parasurama, the mythical founder of Kerala, is told to have built a temple here devoted to Lord Shiva.
The twelve-day festival of the temple falls in November -December, and is celebrated with classical dance and music performances.
Also well-known is the 'Kshetra Kalapeedhom', a school devoted to temple arts.
Another temple dedicated to Lord Subramanya at Udayanapuram, 3 kms from Vaikom,
also figures prominently for its woodcarvings, stone sculptures and
murals.
