Terracotta
Pottery has been called the lyric of handicrafts. It symbolises man's first attempt at
craftmanship. The colours of terracotta articles and figures vary from pink, red, brown to light and dark grey. The terra-cotta products of each region in Madhya Pradesh have their own identity and distinctiveness.
There are special craftsmen to make suitable elephants and horses for the offering. Apart from these, masks are another object in
terracota that has become very popular among art lovers. These tribal people design various faces with different emotions on the masks. Toys for children and lamps (Diya) for night use or worshiping are also an important product of
terracota .Bastar,a tribal area dominated by Muria ,
Maria, Bhatara and a few other tribes makes its unique contribution in red and black terracota.
