Baruni

The Baruni festival is celebrated on the thirteenth day of the dark half of Phairen (Jan-Feb). It is devoted to worship of Lord Shiva. It is introduced by Chandrakirti in the nineteenth century.

Cheiraoba

In the month of April, the Cheiraoba celebrations are a joyous occasion for all. Houses are given a facelift with decorations and the deities bless the food eaten. Cheiraoba marks the New Year for the Meiteis.
 

Chumpha

The Chumpha festival of the Tangkhul Nagas is held in early December,the Chumpha festival is a great festival of the Tanghul Nagas. The festival is held after harvest. The last three days are devoted to social gatherings and rejoicing.

Durga Puja(Oct.)

Durga Puja is celebrated in Mera (October) month. The main centre of worship of Durga Puja is the Kali temple of Imphal town. The images of goddess Durga are made at many places in Mandapas and in public places.

Christmas (December)

The Chumpha festival of the Tangkhul Nagas is held in early December,the Chumpha festival is a great festival of the Tanghul Nagas. The festival is held after harvest. The last three days are devoted to social gatherings and rejoicing.

Gaan

Celebrated by the Kabui Nagas, Gan-Ngai is a colorful blending of rituals, feasts and dances. The five-day festival is celebrated in December-January.

Heikru Hidongba

Celebrated in the month of September, a festival of joy, with little religious significance along a 16 meter wide boat. Long narrow boats are used to accommodate a large number of rowers. Idol of Shri Bishnu is installed before the commencement of the race.

In Manipur Lord Krishna's birthday called Janmashtami is celebrated on the eight day of the new moon in the month of Thawan (July-Aug). It is celebrated by the Manipuris with great enthusiasm and devotion.
 

Ratha Yatra

One of the greatest festivals of the Hindus of Manipur, the festival is celebrated for ten days(July). Lord Jagannath leaves his temple in a car known as 'Kang' in Manipur pulled by pilgrims who vie with one another for this honor.

Tribal Dances Hansengav

In Hansengav the boys and girls form a circle. The steps are taken with music and alternately changed. The movement is slow in the creation and also the music goes Slow but gradually it is permitted to add to the climax.
 

Ningol Chak Kouba

The annual Meitel festival of Ningol Chak Kouba, organised in October/November, features lavish feasts being arranged by the parents and brothers to honor their married daughters and sisters.

The tribals have dissimilar festivals. 'Enghah' is celebrated during December. It continues for five days. The tribal enjoy with dance and drinks.

Yaosang (Holi) (February/March)

A riot of colours and water and the various chanting of the devotees of Lord Krishna is what you will come across during this festival. Another feature of this premiere festival is the Thabal Chongba (Dancing in the Moonlight).

The Manipuri Muslims observed this festival in the very spirits of joy and festivities as in other Muslim world. During this month the Muslims practice self denial by taking a fast, abstaining from smoke and drink from pre-dawn till sunset.
 

Kut - The Festival of Kuki-Chin-Mizo

Kut is another festival that marks the harvesting season in Manipur. Feasts, traditional drinks, and merrymaking characterize the festival.
