Chad Rein Maw
Chad Rein Maw
is a special kind of dance performed in honor of a respected person.
This dance belongs to the Lyngngam tribe of Meghalaya. It is a dance of
pulling the stone pillar (monument) to be erected in remembrance of a
honourable man. The dance is performed while raising the pillars. The
dancers are adorned with cock feathers or peacock feathers in their
head. It is a dance of thanks giving to God Almighty at the end of the
year for good harvest and to drive away the evil spirits from the
village. |
