Chai Dance
On occasions of Chapchar Kut festival the boys and girls would dance
chai
the whole night. The boys would sit with their backs to the wall.

Chheihlam Dance The Chhilam was the dance
performed in beer parties. But this dance still continues in a modified
form, particularly in gatherings at homes. This is danced by elderly
people and mostly by men, but sometimes women also join in. |

Dance In Mizoram
Khual, in the Mizo language, means guest, and lam stands for dancing. So,
Khuallam is the dance of the guest. To have a position in
paradise, one had to prove one's mettle either in war or in hunting or
by being a man of distinction in society.

Lam Dance
Khal Lam is another admired dance of Mizos in which a group of boys wearing particularly made shawls dance to the beat of drums and gongs.

Mizo Traditional Songs and Dances
Mizo traditional songs and dances were the common amusements of the people. A Zu
party would always be an occasion for songs and dances. |

Musical Instruments
The traditional musical instruments of the Mizos had been mostly the drum, gong and flute. The drum is made from hollowed out tree trunks two sides of which are covered by fine hides. It is about a foot in diameter and two feet in length.

Rallu & Par Lam
Strictly speaking, Rallu lam is not a dance as such. It is fairly a celebration or a rite in honour
of a victorious warrior. |

Originally, this dance was used to be performed mainly by the people of the Maras and Pawi communities of Mizoram.

Sawlakin Dance
Another well-liked dance is Sawlakin. This was at first a Lakher dance, but at the present it has been adopted by all the
Mizas. Sabwlakia means will of the slain. The dance was led by the warrior who had hunted a big game or killed a man.
