Time for the Festivity
The birthday of Lord Rama is observed as Rama Navami on the Ninth day of the light half of the month of Chaitra. Though there are very few temples dedicated to Rama in Orissa, this festival is widely celebrated by the performances of 'Ram Leela' (the sport of Rama) based on the famous epic 'Ramayana'.
Main Ritual
Starting from this day the performances continue for above a month. Some watch fasting on the day and take food only after visiting the temple. There are quite a few centers where the performances are held with vast clarity. The Ram Leela, held in
Asureswar of Cuttack district and Dasapalla of Puri district are well known.
