Location
: Ujjayanta Palace is located in Agartala, the capital city of Tripura, India.
Standing in the heart of the city, the sprawling Ujjayntha Palace covering one square km, built by Radhakishore Manikya Bahadur in 1901.Two large tanks lie in front of the palace and in the intervening space a beautiful Mughal garden has been laid out.
The magnificent tiles floors, ceiling of the Chinese room crafted by artisans brought from China, of the palace which now houses the State Legislative Assembly, may give some idea of the opulence and splendour of the original setting of the building. It has recently been adorned with a spectacular musical fountain at its foreyard.
Pleasure for eyes
It is a magnificient edifice of former Maharajas of Tripura constructed in the heart of Agartala town in about 1.5 sq.km. area in Indo-Roman architectural style. There are also two lakes in front of the Palace. High domes, well laid out gardens and parks, fountains and tanks make it an impressive structure.
The palace is set with huge Mughal style gardens, beautified by pools and gardens and tiled floors. Flood lighting and fountains have added to its beauty. Visitors entering the building on conducted tours run by the State's Tourist Department, should take particular note of the magnificently tiled floors, the ceiling of the Chinese Room crafted by artisans brought from China, and the carved front doors forming an excellent frame for the long drive which once swept up through formal, Mughal
gardens.
Getting there
Airport : Agartala is connected by airlines flights with Calcutta, Guwahati, Delhi.
Railheads : The two nearest railway stations from Agartala are Kumarghat (160 kms) and Dharama Nagar (200 kms). Both the stations on the North-East Frontier Railway, are connected with Lumding & Guwahati, where as Lumding and Guwahati are connected with Calcutta and other major stations in India.
Road Transport : Good motorable raods connect Agartala with Silchar- 288 kms, Guwahati- 599 kms, Shillong 499 kms, Dharmanagar- 200 kms. Tripura Road Transport Corporation buses connect Silchar, Shillong and Dharma Nagar to Agartala. |
