It has the Ashokan symbol of four back-to-back lions which has been adopted as the state symbol of recent India. Varanasi Archaeological Museum concentrates on exhumed discoveries alike to sculpture, architectural fragments and old coins. Also on view are paintings. The museum is open from 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. daily and closed on Fridays.
