Allahabad is also known as Prayag. The most holy spot in Allahabad is
Triveni Sangam. Prayag is the confluence of three of the
holiest rivers of the Hindu mythology, the holy Ganga, Yamuna
and the mythical Saraswati. Allahabad is the largest cities in
Uttar Pradesh. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Brahma also referred
to it as `Tirth Raj' or the `king of all pilgrimage centers'.
Holy Trinity Church was constructed in 1839 under the direction
of Lieutanant Sharp and designer Major Smith. Allahabad Holy Trinity
Church is the first church of Allahabad Uttar Pradesh. It is a fine work
of art, based on Gibb's example of St.Martin-in-fields, London
with attractive tablets from the Gwalior campaign of 1843 and the 1857
mutiny. The Church was holy by Bishop David Wilson, the fifth
Bishop of Calcutta, on 19th February, 1841 and named the Holy Trinity
Church. |
