The Jhanda Fair marks the arrival of Guru Ram Rai, the Sikh Guru, at Dehradun. In the year 1699, Guru Ram Rai built the
gurudwara, Guru Ram Rai Durbar and hoisted his flag.
Still this day, a large fair is held here each year in the month of March or April on the sixth day after Holi as well as a flag (jhanda) unfurled at
Jhanda Chowk.
The Lakhawar Fair is held at the village of the like name in the months of September-October every year. Many activities are held during the festival like dance, music, and sports competitions.
Ever since, a fair is held on the fifth day after Holi each year in March/April as it was on this day that Ram Rai had at home in the city.
Followers from all over the country converge at Dehradun to contribute in this fair, which is the major one celebrated in the Doon valley. A flag (Jhanda) is royally unfurled at the
Jhanda Chowk in the city.
