The Agni Mandir at Ezra Street is closed at present. But the one at Metcalfe Lane is open to all. It was established on 12th October, 1912.

Belur Math or Ramakrishna Temple

The structure is similar to a temple, a mosque or a church depending on the way you look at it. The Architecture of the structure is very interesting. The math was established in 1899.

Located on Asutosh Chowdhury Avenue, it is the latest addition to the places of visit in Calcutta. Built over twenty two years of painstaking labour, it is an all marble structure with very high quality Rajasthani engravings.

Dakshineswar Temple

Situated about 20km north of the city and across the River Hooghly is a temple dedicated to goddess Kali, a form of Goddess Parvati the consort of Lord Shiva.

The Kalighat temple was built in 1809 on the site of an ancient temple. It is on the name of this temple that English gave the place name Calcutta which is anglicized form of Kalikata.

Madan Mohan Temple

Further north of the Shyama Raya Temple is the beautiful form of the Madan Mohan Temple (constructed around 1694).

This mosque is situated at Mahatma Gandhi Road. Huge red sandstones were used to build this mosque. This huge mosque can hold up to 10000 worshippers at a time.

Parasnath Jain Temple

The tower of the Jain Temple can be seen as soon as one enters Raja Dinendra Street. The temple is accessible through Badridas Temple Road.

The Shyam Rai (1643 A.D.) and the Madan Gopal (1665 A.D.), built in brick and laterite respectively, have five towers each and are of the panchayatana type.
 

St Johns Church

St. John's Church  was built by the grave of Job Charnock, the founder of Kolkata. Set up in 1820, the church building has an impressive bearing, styled on Gothic lines.
